I started my career in digital as a Search Marketing consultant at HAVAS People in London, working on lead generation PPC campaigns and SEO projects for UK Universities and recruitment companies.
How I started my career in digital marketing
When I joined Mediacom in Dubai, I was fast-tracked from Search Specialist to head of bid media and SEO in just 6 months. Having only a few years of experience at the time, I had to fill in the shoes of one of the most demanding roles in the agency, managing over $1M budgets to plan and implement regional PPC campaigns across MENA for clients such as Volkswagen, Etuhad Airways and Sony Mobile.

What do I love the most about digital marketing
The thrill of monitoring conversions, tracking sales and leads. Understanding human behaviour through data. I also love the speed and pace of the entire digital marketing industry! It keeps you on your toes and there's always something new to learn about.

I started my career as a search markerter, in what is now known as Google Ads, thus I hold a special place in my heart for Google Search. In the grander scheme of things, I am a huge advocate of intent-driven channels, such as Search Engine Marketing, Amazon Shopping Ads and PPC advertising and a big believer in the power of Search Engine Optimisation.
Getting the basics right can propel you forward faster than any "big marketing idea". Implementation beats strategy for breakfast. Simple and smart solutions can achieve disproportionate positive results. 80% of the company's sucess can be attributed to 20% of the company's effort (known as the Pareto principle).

The importance of digital marketing as a skill will enormously increase, together with the realization that basic is no longer enough. Both corporates and startups alike will have to become more sophisticated and equip themselves with skilled personel and the right tech stack.

Modern digital marketers should be able to learn new technologies on the fly and most importantly they should be able to experience the world through the lence of a marketer, always looking around for creative ideas and new ways to reach their target audience.
